On May 12, 2021, the member of parliament Christoph Maier published an anti-antifa brochure entitled “‘Allgäu rechtsaußen’ and left-wing radicalism in Swabia”. In it he defamed a committed civil society as an alleged left-wing extremist network.
The signers of a declaration of solidarity decisively reject this as a right-wing attack. They see a well-known right-wing strategy in the pamphlet: the “enemy” should be marked, isolated and then fought all the more easily. Against this, civil society is showing solidarity and continues to stand together against the right.
Joint declaration of solidarity
As part of Swabian civil society, we stand in solidarity against right-wing attacks and defamation.
We are appalled by the defamation of civil society actors in Swabia by an alleged “study” published by right-wing member of parliament Christoph Maier (AfD). A committed civil society is denigrated there as an alleged “left-wing extremist network”.
We recognize in this the well-known right-wing strategy: to mark the political “enemy”, to isolate them from society, in order to then be able to fight them more easily.
We want no part in it.
We, as part of Swabian civil society, are even closer together after this attack, which is directed against all of us.
Anti-democratic structures and right-wing networks can expect that we will continue to oppose them resolutely. Now in even closer cooperation than before, because we as democrats have moved even closer together through the process of solidarity that the attack by the AfD initiated.
Despite all the differences in the structure and focus of our political commitment, we agree: Now more than ever we need many of the “main actors in the fight against the right wing” criticized by Christoph Maier in his pamphlet in Swabia and everywhere else.
We stand together behind all those affected by right-wing attacks! We call on civil society to join us in staying vigilant against the far right.
